Fate of the Pseudogap in a polarized Fermi superfluid

The normal state of an unpolarized two-component Fermi gas in the strong coupling region of the BCS-BEC crossover has a single particle spectrum with a distinct suppression of the spectral density around the Fermi energy. This pseudogap is associated with the presence of noncondensed pairs which Bose condense when the gas is cooled to the superfluid transistion temperature. When the gas is polarized, so that there are more up-spins than down-spins, the transition temperature drops — eventually vanishing. The ground state in such highly polarize gases is a pair-free normal Fermi liquid. I will give a gentle introduction to this phenomenon and then explain how the pseudogap physics evolves as the polarization is varied.
