Outreach to the General Public 2021-2022
Between 2020 and 2021 a student-led CUA community service steering committee, Engage CUA, was formed. It was born out of efforts related to and following ShutdownSTEM, beginning as a regular meeting to discuss research on important topics around increasing diversity. The primary goal is to organize and track outreach efforts. In the past year, CUA members have logged 1,054 recorded hours of outreach activities. Below is a sampling of the types of K-12 service people have logged June 2021-June 2022 (mostly virtual).
ClimateCollage Association – Science education through gaming
Vaccine Boosters – Vaccine education and advocacy
Educational Justice Initiative at MIT – approval granted and design currently underway for an introductory Python course for incarcerated students, fully virtual to both the men’s and women’s prisons. Participants also laid the ground work for introducing similar programming courses to a women’s prison in the Boston area this summer/fall.
