Biography:
Ibon Santiago obtained his Physics degree at the University of the Basque Country
(Bilbao). He was a visiting student at the University of Texas at Austin for the academic
year of 2006.
He then worked on proton beam instabilities at the Accelerator and Beams department at
CERN (Switzerland) under the supervision of Dr. Frank Zimmerman.
Between 2007 and 2008 he joined Prof. Bert Hecht’s Biophotonics group at the University
of Wuerzburg in Germany.
Ibon’s research focuses on interacting systems and the rich experimental possibilities at
the interface between Atomic Physics and Condensed Matter Physics. He uses laser
technologies to cool, trap and image atoms in order to learn about new phases of matter.
He is also interested in the dynamics and collective properties of self-organizing
systems.
Ibon is currently a graduate student in Martin Zwierlein’s group of Ultracold Quantum
Gases at MIT.
